Flagship Walking Route:Turner
There are ten mosaics in the Turner Series each measuring 146cm x 42cm. They are made with Bizassa vitreous glass and millefiori from Italy.
Each mosaic is embedded in an aluminium frame and set into the exterior wall outside Holy Trinity and St. John’s School in Margate.
Joseph Mallord William Turner (1775 – 1851) had strong associations with Margate. He often came to paint seascapes and to see his friend and landlady Mrs. Booth.
I worked with the pupils and parents of the school to make the mosaics.
The Turner to Dickens walk runs between Margate Harbour and Broadstairs seafront, passing through the historic village of St Peters. I was commissioned by Kent County Council to work alongside Holy Trinity and St. John’s School pupils and the local community to design these mosaics, in order to encourage local people to start talking about, and using, the walking route.
