'Sara's Butterfly Dance' is a memorial mosaic to Sara - the daughter of Alison, a friend of mine. Sara was a gifted ballet dancer. So the mosaic is supposed to represent – though hopefully in a subtle way – Sara in paradise. As Sara dances she conjures up butterflies – who swoop and fly around her.
It’s meant to be funny and uplifting – but when you know the story behind it – it’s poignant and a bit sad.
This mosaic hangs in the reception to the LITU (Liver Improvement treatment Unit) at King’s Hospital in London.
'Sara's Dragonfly Dance' is a companion piece which I made because Sara loved Dragonflies.
